TOPICS:
When you tell someone that you are a Plumbing Designer/Engineer, are they surprised and give you a strange look. They don’t see your tool belt or “plumber’s crack”. Today we are provided with an amazing opportunity to protect the health and welfare of the public through properly designing the plumbing systems being installed in our homes, schools, business and health-care facilities. Of all the trades, Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing, plumbing design is the only trade that is essential for life, providing clean drinking water and removal of wastewater from our buildings. During this beginners class we will start the design process by reviewing and designing storm drainage systems, natural gas systems, domestic cold and hot water systems & sanitary sewer systems Along with reviewing how to properly coordinate these utilities with the Architects and Structural Engineers.
INSTRUCTOR:
Michael Danielson, CPD, GPD of RWB Consulting Engineers will be your instructor. Michael has been with RWB for 27+ years and is the Department Head for Plumbing and Fire Protection. He has been the Education Chairman for the DFW ASPE Chapter since 2006. Michael earn his Bachelors of Science in Marine Engineering Systems from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in 1995. He brings with him a wealth of experience in designing plumbing systems in healthcare, municipal, multifamily, and institutional designs.
Course Description:
This program provide the basic plumbing design of storm drainage system, sanitary sewer/vent systems, natural gas systems and domestic hot and cold water systems. We will also review and discuss coordination between trades.
The program will review the basics of storm drain pipe sizing, routing and coordination (2 hours)
Learning Objectives:
- Properly size storm and overflow drain piping
- Properly select equipment needed within the storm drainage system.
- Correctly coordinate pipe routing with building and structure within the building
- Understand correct pipe material to be used based upon application and ground movement.
The program will review the basics of domestic water pipe sizing, routing and coordination (5 hours)
Domestic Cold Water Sizing – 2 Hours,
Learning Objectives:
- Properly size domestic cold water piping
- Properly size domestic hot water piping
- Properly select and size the domestic heating water equipment to fit specific projects.
- Correctly coordinate space allocations within the building
- Understand how to correctly size domestic hot water return systems.
This program provide the basic plumbing design of sanitary sewer systems. The program will review the basics of sanitary sewer pipe sizing, routing and coordination (2.5 hours)
Learning Objectives:
- Properly size sanitary sewer piping
- Properly size sanitary vent piping
- Properly select equipment needed within the sanitary sewer system.
- Correctly coordinate pipe routing with building and structure within the building
- Understand correct pipe material to be used based upon application and ground movement.
The program will review the basics of natural gas pipe sizing, routing and coordination (1.5 hours)
Learning Objectives:
- Properly size natural gas piping
- Properly select equipment needed within the natural gas system.
- Correctly coordinate pipe routing with site utilities, building and structure within the building
The program will review the basics understanding of coordination between trades and dealing with structural conflicts within the building. (3 hours)
Learning Objectives:
- Review and discuss the continual coordination that must occur throughout design and construction.
- How do deal with structural conflicts and correctly understanding limitations within the plumbing design..
- Correctly coordinate pipe routing with building and structure within the building
